That the Academy model is adaptable is demonstrated by KULTURLABOR.sh. Here, the founders (the artist duo fructuoso/wipf) have adopted the principle and woven it into their existing third space for culture. The Culture Lab is a blend of studio, darkroom, recording studio, and meeting zone – a place of cultural participation through making.
CAS machen (CAS Making)
In cooperation with the Colearning Academy, the Culture Lab offers the "CAS machen" (CAS Making). The name is the program: it's not about theorizing about culture, but about pursuing your own cultural project. Participants use the infrastructure and community in Schaffhausen to bring their vision to life – whether a film, an exhibition, or a community event. The formal framework of continuing education gives them the legitimacy and confidence to embrace this open-ended process.
Opening of Spaces
The Culture Lab also takes access a step further: with an annual subscription, people have 24/7 access to the spaces and tools. There are no "school hours" – just a permanently available enabling space. What matters is the attitude: everyone is free to create, mistakes are welcome, and community emerges through doing.
